A Simple Approach to Making a Big Impact

But this hasn’t always been what we do at She Can Coterie. My mission has always been to help get things off of your plate so you can walk in your strengths, do the work that sets your soul on fire, and make your biggest impact in the world.

We did this by offering every kind of business support a CEO could need. We took on the motto, “You name it, we can do it!” And we literally did All. The. Things. for our clients.

We managed podcasts, wrote blog content, scheduled social media posts, developed brand copy, updated websites, sorted inboxes, sent speaker pitches, and so much more. We loved helping our clients put their work out into the world in a bigger way.

As time went on, though, we started to notice some red flags.

First: We were getting tons of inquiries from less-than-ideal clients. 

Somehow our marketing was getting lost in translation. Our client relationship strategy wasn’t attracting and keeping clients who were ideal for our business. We were stuck on a “referral merry-go-round” with people who weren’t great matches.

This lead to high turnover and a decrease in profits. I would lie awake at night thinking about the team and business expenses. I would hustle to try random things to bring in money.  One month, I had to personally cover team payroll, and I knew this could NEVER happen again.


Second: Our BEST clients still felt exhausted.

They were able to do more tasks with our help, which increased their profits, but they still felt stretched thin and struggled to scale their businesses further. 

Even with the support from us to accomplish more, they weren’t showing up in the right places. They were trying to show up EVERYWHERE and were not making their biggest impact ANYWHERE.

We both had preconceived notions of what “good marketing” looked like. We both had been fed the same stories, half-truths and downright sleazy tactics from the “experts.” 

When it came time to craft strategy, we weren’t helping our clients drill down to their core message and most suited platform. We would talk hashtag strategy, plan Facebook ads, and develop Pinterest plans, but it wasn’t showing their true self. We helped them do a lot that was “good enough,” but that wasn’t enabling them make their biggest impact. We were just continuing the cycle.

When you know better, you do better.


When we started drilling down to the heart of it, we began to see the impact. The old way of doing things wasn’t working. 

After digging into these issues, talking with our clients, doing some research, and brainstorming with my team, we discovered the answer to scaling a business is not to hustle and do EVERYTHING. To scale well, give your best to only THE MOST IMPACTFUL THINGS and strip everything else away.

We realized that growing a business, generating leads, and bringing in new clients isn’t about numbers. It actually works best to build relationships.


A profitable business starts with investing in relationships.

Every CEO’s strategy will look a little different, but our team discovered some incredible commonalities. We’ve curated, aligned and structured these into our unique methodology called The Relationship Diamond.

Essentially, we advocate for building client relationships like you would build friendships offline. This creates the HAPPIEST clients and builds the strongest network of loyal brand advocates. 


Here’s an example of what this looks like:

STEP ONE : First Hellos

In real life, we connect with one person at a time. We’ll help you “meet” and speak to your target audience in a more personal way, starting with your marketing platforms. At this point, your brand messaging should feel warm and welcoming. You should focus on showing up in ONE core place and putting your all into it!


STEP TWO : Go Deeper

Now that you’re acquaintances, it’s time to get to know each other better. We’ll help you focus your message, tell your audience more about yourself, ask them good questions, and engage in conversation. When it’s appropriate, you should also share information about your business and how you help your clients.


STEP THREE : Engage & Invite

It’s time to deepen your new relationship! Imagine inviting a new friend to grab coffee. In your marketing strategy, this looks like engaging one-on-one with members of your audience and offering to jump on a call together if they are interested in your services. We’ll make sure you’ve got the right systems in place so the invitations you send get joyful, prequalified RSVPs!


STEP FOUR : Welcome Them In

When you both hit it off, you might invite them over to your home for a Netflix and charcuterie night. At this point someone has booked your services. We’ll help you make sure your “home” (your client experience) is clean and inviting so their excitement keeps building after they walk in the door.


STEP FIVE : Throw a Great Party

Choose the right wine, the best cheese, and a great flick! It’s important to make the process of working with you as enjoyable and smooth as possible. We’ll help you fulfill expectations and deliver your services on time, while surprising and delighting your clients along the way.


STEP SIX : Keep the Friendship Strong

This isn’t the end of your friendship. We’ll help you engage with and serve your past clients. They’ll become part of your brand advocacy as you build your movement, which will lead to strong referrals and other great connections down the road!


The most impactful things will always, always be building and investing in long-lasting client relationships and marketing in ways that align with your unique strengths and gifts. 

We have to stop seeing people as numbers; numbers on our follower counts, numbers on our email lists, numbers in our bank accounts. On the other side of every computer screen is a living, breathing human being who longs for connection and relationship.
