Sure, the platform has changed quite a bit. Blogs are no longer just a space for sharing pictures what you ate for lunch last week or public diary entries. There’s a place for pieces of your personal touch on your biz’s blog, but having evergreen, pillar content on your blog can help you drive traffic to your site, help your people trust you, and turn them into buyers or paying clients.
Because of the way blogging has changed, we have to be more strategic. You need to make sure you are consistently posting quality evergreen content that will point readers to your offerings and keep them coming back for more. But how do you make that happen?
A content calendar! That term might sound overwhelming, but it’s not - we promise! We’re here to help you. Here are some questions to ask yourself that will help you learn how to successfully plan your blogging content calendar.
What is your niche?
Get your posts down to three to five types of content or SEO buzzwords that your brand/biz is about. Those handful of topics are the categories on your blog. Every single post should fall under one of those five subjects. If it doesn’t, feel free to share it on your personal Facebook page or in an Instagram post!
It might feel hard to get all your ideas down to just several categories, but it’s worth it! Your content will be more focused and fewer SEO buzzwords make it easier for search engines to find you website. Win-win!
How many times a week do you want to post?
The number one key here is to be consistent. You don’t have to be producing blog content every day, just make sure that you are consistent with the schedule you choose so your readers can depend on you.
Another factor to consider is how many quality blog posts you are able to produce. If only posting one time every other week means that you’ll be writing higher quality content, then go for that! There’s no sense in posting sub-par content just for the sake of posting.

On the first page of the spreadsheet, put your categories as the headers and do a brain dump of post ideas. [Side note: it’s a good idea to keep a running list of ideas so you aren’t ever scrambling for content!] Add to this list of post ideas whenever you have a moment of inspiration.
Here are some ideas to get you going:
Comprehensive guide or tutorial
A review of a tool or program that you use
A case study of someone who has used your course/followed your method/etc.
Bust the top myths about your industry or service
Your story — how you got to where you are
A deep dive into a theory or topic that’s hot in your industry right now
Common mistakes in your niche
An ultimate resource list
The best apps in your niche
On the calendar page of the spreadsheet, plug in the dates each blog post will be published and the date it’s going to be written by. This will give you a hard deadline to make sure you have time to do all the other things that go into a blog post. Make sure to be realistic about the time it will take you to prep each post to go live.
Schedule out the ideas you brainstormed next to these dates. Make sure to pay attention to the dates of anything important coming up (launches, holidays, etc.).
BONUS IDEA: Theme out your months! You can blog about a specific category for one whole month.
