Today it seems like everyone is using Instagram.
It might be the most relevant social media platform out there right now. This is not only true for personal use, but also for business as well. If you have your own biz or do some type of social media management for your job, then it is crucial to understand the importance and impact of Instagram.
So what do you need to know about Instagram? What makes it so important?
Check out these stats from Hootsuite:
Instagram has over 500 million active monthly users.
80% of Instagram users come from outside of the United States. (Talk about reach!)
Instagram is used by 31% of American women and 24% of men.
It is expected that at least 70% of brands use Instagram for marketing.
75% of Instagram users respond to a call to action.
Hashtags garner 12.6% more engagement per post.
So, now you have the facts. What do you do next?
You realize the importance of Instagram and know that your boss babe business needs it. You are pretty sure you have Instagram for personal use down to a science, but what about business?
I have three words that will change the way you use Instagram: Instagram content calendar.
An Instagram content calendar will help you to grow your brand, whether it be through simple brand standards, brand awareness, reach, and/or sales. You will see growth if you learn to post consistently and a content calendar will help you do just that. So where to start?
The first thing you’ll need to do is choose an online tool that will help you schedule your Instagram content.
Now it’s time to map out your content.
Do you want each day of the week to have a specific theme? Are you doing a product launch? Whatever it is you want to accomplish, write it out and be specific!
Once you have your thematic days planned out, find the perfect content. Use your own branded photos or stock photos. Flat lays (here's an example from our own Instagram feed) are really popular right now and can keep your page looking clean and organized. Whatever you choose, remember that you should always be promoting your product or service in some way.
Once you have the perfect image, you can pair it with the perfect caption.
There are no clear-cut guidelines on Instagram captions. Use the length that works for you, clearly breaking up paragraphs to keep the caption organized while also keeping the reader's attention. Use emojis and hashtags too!
Hashtags are vital. Use them to drive engagement. Do a little bit of your own research beforehand and make a list of what other business owners in your market are using for their hashtags. Also, make a list of hashtags that are exclusive to your brand name, product, or service. Try to use at least 5 hashtags per post and stay concise and relevant.
So now you have a perfect post and caption for each day of the week planned out on your content calendar.
Upload that into the scheduling tool you picked and voilà - you have planned out your social content for the week! It’s easiest to pick one day out of the week that you choose to focus on creating your content calendar. Put in an hour or two that day, refining your content and brand, and you won’t have to worry about it the rest of the week.
You’ll see people start to engage with your business, so use this opportunity to start a conversation and reel in new customers!
