Why Blogging is Still Crucial for Business

Did you know that the first blog was created in 1994? You might be thinking, "How can something that’s been around on the internet for 20+ years still be relevant?" We promise you… it’s anything BUT irrelevant.

Yes, blogging takes time. Yes, the platform has changed over those couple decades. But, most importantly — blogging will bring more traffic and potential clients to your website.

We here at She Can Coterie believe that blogging is still valuable. You still need a blog. Here’s why.

Those three little letters can be kind of scary sometimes. SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization” and, basically, it is methods that you can use to make your website most visible to people when they’re searching on Google. This is the number one reason why we believe you still need a blog.

There are things you can do behind the scenes on your website to make this happen, but one way to get more eyes on what you’re selling is by posting high-quality, SEO-friendly blog posts. By paying attention to SEO, you’re not only going to get more eyes on your website, but you’re going to get the visitors (ahem, potential clients) you want looking at your content.

Here are a few tips to make search engines love your posts:

  • Use keywords. These are words and phrases within your post that make it possible for people to find your website through search engines. You want to write about keywords that your ideal client is searching for and use these keywords throughout each of your posts.

  • Use paragraphs and headings. Search engines love blog posts that are readable, and using headings and paragraphs to break up your writing and help your reader follow along does just that.

  • Optimize your graphics. When you upload graphics to your blog, make sure the file name includes your keyword and that you have changed the alternative text (or “alt-text”) to a description of your post that — you guessed it! — includes your keyword.

  • Link to relevant content throughout. If you mention it, link to it! Not only will that get potential clients clicking around on your website, but this is great for SEO.

BONUS: If you are using WordPress, there are plugins that can help you make sure every post has been optimized! Yoast is a great one.

Potential customers are more likely to become clients if there is a face behind your website. Share the story about why you started your business. Give your readers tips that are based on your real-life experience. Write about why they need the service you provide.

People are more likely to buy from someone if they have a relationship with them and having a blog is a great way to start that relationship.

If you are providing top-notch information and content upgrades (freebies, resources, etc.) on your blog, your readers will know the kind of quality that you provide and they will feel comfortable buying from you. They’ll think, “If she gives this much valuable FREE content out on her blog, I can only imagine what she’s going to share when I pay!”

Build that relationship and provide first-class content every time and you can’t go wrong

You might not think so, but it’s true. And we believe that. There’s not a single person online that has the exact same ideas, services, products, or thoughts that you do, so share them. The world needs to hear what you have to say and you’re the perfect person to say it!

Here are the next steps for making your blog work and work well:
